As Olympic summer excitement continues, UDN has teamed up with the “Dark Run” team, composed mainly of individuals with visual impairments, for an inspiring run at Haoxiang Lake Park!

UDN’s “dark runners” have become guiding eyes for visually impaired participants through volunteer training. Together, they share joy and warmth, experiencing the world in a new, dynamic way. Running in the dark, they exhibit resilience and bravery, always moving toward the light.

Running Toward the Light

What challenges do visually impaired runners face? Uneven terrain, obstacles, and invisible aid stations—each step is a significant challenge.

Founded in 2009, the Dark Run team addresses these issues, encouraging visually impaired individuals to engage in sports and fostering communication between guides and runners. Their mission is to reduce societal prejudice and enhance understanding.

“Sports Without Barriers, Hearts Without Barriers”

Under the setting sun, UDNers listen to visually impaired partners' experiences and guidance. This sincere communication builds a consensus, preparing them for a special journey toward the light.

Typically, a visually impaired runner is supported by three guides: a lead runner, a guide runner with a tether, and a rear runner. In the darkness, the 30 cm tether symbolizes warmth and trust, with UDNers adjusting pace and support based on subtle changes in the tether.

True Light Comes from the Heart

True illumination comes from heartfelt connection rather than visual perception. Through guiding runs, UDNers experience warmth and trust often overlooked in daily life.

UDN believes success extends beyond commercial achievements to include societal contributions. Our collaboration with the Dark Run team reflects our commitment to social inclusivity and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting "Health and Well-being" and "Quality Education," and reaffirming our dedication to reducing inequality.
